Genealogy
"The study or investigation of ancestry and family histories."
My quest to find more about my ancestors started in high school after watching Alex Haley's "Roots". I was fascinated that he was able to trace his lineage back to Africa. I wanted to do the same but "thought" it would take too much of my time.
I had a renewed interest in genealogy a few years later when I attended a family reunion with my grandparents. I took my first trip "down South" where I met a lot of my relatives and heard some of the stories, but I still "thought" that it would take too much of my time.
As the years passed, I continued to "think" that genealogy would take too much of my time. Suddenly, I realized that most of the people who would be able to help me had passed away. Finally, the "thought" was to get started now before it was too late.
Now that I'm into it, it's very easy to get addicted. I started to get serious about it in 1997 and haven't regretted it since. Because I talk about it so much to family and friends, I have others starting their family trees too.
